Geographical context

The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia is located in the Middle East in Asia. It covers nearly 45% of the Arabian Peninsula. It borders 8 countries: Yemen, Oman, the United Arab Emirates, Qatar, Bahrain, Kuwait, Iraq and Jordan. It is bordered by the Red Sea to the west and the Persian Gulf to the east.

The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia consists of 4 provinces. The capital is Riyadh.

There are 28.6 million inhabitants spread over 2 million km2 which is 30% larger than Quebec.

  •     The fertility rate is 3.83 children per woman.
  •     The average life expectancy is 76 years.
  •     30% of women are illiterate compared to 15% of men.
